Clarification, Slow Internet, and Ani-Gamers

A couple things I’d like to clarify if I haven’t already made it blatantly clear: I have three and a half blogs, and I use them all — the cycle of usage, however, for each of them is different. Here on WordPress, I post long posts dealing with my life, and my emotional well or unwell being most of the time. My Twitter’s sole usage revolves around simple thoughts I come up with whilst either working, photoshopping, or hanging out listening to music — and not much else. The two remaining blogs are Destructoid and 1UP — and they are both pretty much for the same thing: video games reviews, news, and thoughts. I’m a spaz, however, so I’ll pretty much drop any huge post on one, get excited, and put it on all of my blogs, excluding Twitter (in which I may link to the blogs on). So, if you had any questioning as to which blog does which, there you are. Choose.

Before I begin about Ani-Gamers, I’d like to say that my internet’s been driving me nuts all day today but I can’t seem to find why the hell its decided to become such an a-hole this morning. Meh, probably all the seeding…or just being a real dick.

I just finished dropping a volunteer application on Ani-Gamers, since they are looking for writer’s services — it’s another great opportunity to review animes and video games for an array of people who would like to read them. I’m sure my services will be a great help, but I really hope they reply…too often have I been left in the dark when I offer to volunteer.

Until next time…

The Earth Hour (writing exercise)

It’s 2:28 AM, I had just opened my web browser and Google is my home page…if you check now, the page [probably] is entirely black — reason being as Google states: “We’ve turned the lights out. Now it’s your turn – Earth Hour.” To sum up what this statement represents; Earth Hour is a national event, where the goal is to have as many people as possible participate in turning off all their lights and make a statement regarding the issues on energy conservation and world climate change.

…Well, I’d like to say this whole thing is adorably humble, but I can’t. It was, I’m sure, in Australia 2007 where its roots lie, but now the rest of the world has caught up with it all and begun to really come together, as one, to make that statement. How so? Well, through the usual methods of advertising and promoting: placing big names, celebs, and corporations (certainly EcoGeek will join!) that support so people could adopt further initiative to actually go ahead and actually partake. Now Google has become a promoter, which is a clear vision as to how this whole thing shall play out. Being one of the most visited websites (dozens of dozens of millions of hits daily), awareness truly will be increased.

Though, yes, awareness heightened…I’m not sure it’s quite so much for climate change, per say, rather to merely be a part of all this. That’s how alot of people are, I’m afraid — and that’s the only problem that persists involving mass-promotions on events. Too often, it becomes more of a pop-culture driven reason rather than an actual interest for change. I am not much different, though; I’ll be taking part in Earth Hour…not much because I actually care for the environment as much as I should, but to say that I did if it becomes a big deal. However! Do not misinterpret; it’s not that I’m not entirely inept involving these matters — I’m saying I’m not an avid environment-preserver — I’ll recycle, but I’m not going out of my way for biodegradables.

Now, even with the slight flawed promotional system, it’s not to say everyone will just do it to do it. You’ll have those who would have done it without the high-profile coverage, or have done it before (in Aussie?). Then you have the people who turn their initiative into an interest — those who have gone out of their way to learn more about either Earth Hour or environmental climate change and pollutants, et cetera, et cetera. Truth is, there’s a multitude of labelable participants that in all of Earth Hour’s entirety that, in turn, will combine for one common, honorable cause; be your reasons driven or apathetic, all of this will [hopefully] cause further awareness, so we may continue to protect this Earth. Our home.

Sonic Unleashed and Sega; my thoughts

I think I deserve my on-the-fence feelings when in regards to Sonic Unleashed; I mean, Sega hasn’t really confirmed or denied anything (or at least not yet). If this were really just hoax someone or some group of people are trying to pull off to tug at our heart strings, it’s disgusting. But if it wasn’t…well, I’d like to say we’re looking at an entirely new direction for Sonic, but it frankly strikes me as a Sonic Rivals-esque revision, minus the rivals.I’m the kind of person who really gets excited about these kind of things; and more often than not, I’m disappointed — my expectations were downright destroyed since I’d set them so high. But in a peculiar twist, this time around I’m not as boasting towards Sonic Unleashed as I thought I would be. Normally I’d throw all my highest hopes in there, and say ‘it will be great, you’ll see’ — but they weren’t great. Not since Sonic Adventure have I seen something comparable in quality.

That’s where the Sonic Rivals gameplay frightens me…It’s a broadly known FACT that Sonic Team have been substantially off their game (figuratively speaking) for the past six or seven years. I don’t know if they’re being lazy, if they’re becoming old and senile, or if they’re genuinely trying to make quality games that just can’t seem to hit the target near enough to please all us nostalgic-driven Sonic fans. With all this said, either their laziness, their age, or their inability to craft a proper, high quality Sonic experience translates to Sonic Rivals. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying it was a necessarily bad game, by any means, but it just wasn’t lived up to my high expectations. Sonic Advance was a glorious achievement because it wasn’t just throwing some Sonic at you with whatever they can plant their hands on; it was a good, effort-filled production worthy of the Sonic name.

What I felt with Sonic Rivals wasn’t what I felt with Sonic Advance. It all just seemed like a simple train of thought: “This is the PSP, so let’s make it a 2.5D game, with speed, and a couple of stages, a two-on-two race gimmick and profit!” Sure, it was okay, but there wasn’t nearly enough there. It was saddening to say the least. I would hate to let people have their hopes up so high when it seems that Sega is actually getting it right for once (if it is, in fact, real) and then realize it wasn’t all that great, it was just a 2.5D, press button and win experience with a blue hedgehog and some loops.

So finally, having all this digested, the question still remains: Will this really be an entire Sonic experience deserving of the Sonic name? Will it be able to pull itself back up from its already, deep and dirty pit that’s been dug for itself? I haven’t the slightest clue — I just know I shall reserve all judgment until I play it for myself. Though, know this…my hopes for this fast blue hedgehog will always be there. I don’t know why, but I know I’ll just never be able to cease believing in him. Until the day he dies, in all entirety, hope will be there — not as high as it used to be, but it will be there.

What do you guys think? I’m interested in your thoughts. If this isn’t a hoax; do you think the game is heading for the right direction? Do you think it just looks pleasing but when it comes down to it, it’s not all it’s cracked up to be? Et cetera, et cetera…

Questionable future

from 1up

I’ve been pretty…uninvolved lately — I can’t seem to find anything to write about (and I really would like to), but I can’t think of anything. So…this would clearly mean I have to look for things to write about. I’ll soon go off and read more news articles and then write my perspectives on them! However, I won’t be able to write about every single topic, so…if you, the random passerby OR a subscriber, has anything interesting that I may place forth upon my own opinions or perspectives, please link me to it, and I’ll dish it out as well as I can.

I’d also like to finish my review on Super Smash Bros. Brawl, though, I’m just kind of overwhelmed on all its content, small flaws aside, I’m not sure how big or how small I should make the review. I could either make it, a) large, dealing with everything possible — OR, b) make it short and sweet and summing up the basics of what makes it either a good game or a bad game. Still confused.

Just know I’ll have most of this crap on WordPress. Including this.

blackberries

I’ve been meaning to get one, so today was when I finally did get one. There’s not much to say about it, but know that it’s going to take some time to adjust. Not to mention, I have to add all my 80-somewhat contacts back, which might not even result in 80. Here’s my model:

Yeah, it’s pretty cute, I suppose.

Garfield Minus Garfield

I’m known to over-evaluate certain things at time, but I’m not even going to do that now about this; have you ever wondered how the comic strip, Garfield, would be if there were no, well…Garfield? I’m guessing you probably haven’t. Regardless, take a look at how everything changes when you’ve taken Jon Arbuckle’s only form of home interaction out of the equation and get a strange, lonely, schizophrenic in dire need of something that’s all too evident.

Peculiar decisions

I decided not to attend school today, and there’s not much reason as to why. Sure, I felt a little sick — well, a bit more than a ‘little,’ — but it’s nothing I couldn’t have handled. I shouldn’t even have been screwing around with my absences like I’m doing now, but there’s just something about it all that’s allowing me to relax and not even worry. I suppose it’s the whole ‘deal with it later’ young mentality I’ve got going on, or maybe it’s because yesterday I wasn’t there and it felt like I didn’t want to be there today. Maybe it’s both, no, it’s probably definitely both.

On a side note, my lips have been burned for the past week and a half and they just can’t seem to heal. I try and refrain from rubbing my lips, but sometimes I gotta! And if I do, I’ll put some of this god awful lip balm that’s intended for healing burned lips (not chapped ones).

Eughhh… It feels good to just let something out of my mind like that. So now I’m off to play some Brawl. See you.

p.s. Oh, right. I’ve got one more thingĀ  I forgot to mention…Along with my shenanigans in the shower whilst singing ‘kikkoman,’ I took it even upon myself to extend them even longer! I was bein’ a nut case with my girlfriend on the phone and singing the damned song as loudly and obnoxiously as I could, and she had a headache and was sleepy. Ha.

Because it’s so good

Ha, no, actually! There’s a story behind this. Well, not really. I was just showering and found myself singing this song without end, and I know how great it is, so I’m showing it here!

A chronicle on blogging past

If you’ve been reading my stuff before, you probably know this is, like, my third or fourth blog migration since I started really writing stuff compulsively — and if you’re new to my writing, you now know I’m a very non-committing person when it comes to where I should write what I write!

I’ve also decided to take this new adventure of a website, WordPress, for a spin. I would also like to chronicle my past blog sites on here, for the fun of it (and mostly for a post). Oh, and a quick disclaimer: it’s not really that many migrations.

It all began with LiveJournal, probably my longest running web blog service to date. I still have posts there from not to long ago, and I still think it’s a great site for small blogging, and that was a small bit of reasoning to my resignation from it — it wasn’t much for more than small blogging. I’m not a small blogger! I like to posts about things in mass heaps of text and opinionated garbage! Though, don’t get me wrong, I like to throw a small post that has no journalistic integrity to it (that won’t go past a sentence, let alone a paragraph), but I manage to make the argument a hell of a lot deeper if I begin to think about it for more than a couple deca-minute intervals (uh, aka past ten minutes).

So…when I was on LJ, I had found a small site called tumblr, whose only interesting quality was their small URLs…I quickly left after two or three posts and let it be known vividly that I would no longer be posting there on my LJ. It was ridiculous! I had checked them out, but the blogging there was even MORE bite-sized than LJ (don’t get me wrong, LJ posts can be deep, just not as deep as I intend to do so).

There was one more site I took a look at, but it wasn’t really a migration, just more of a side-post. I’m sure some of you have heard of Twitter, if not have your own. It’s basically just quick posts on what’s going on in your life. There’s not much to it when depth is involved (you can send them by text message, and they have a 100~ character limit). It was boring as well, so there was only a handful of stuff I left there.

After that, I started to really, really want to do more video game reviews and news reports (also intended to do here), and thought ‘wait, isn’t there a site for that?’ There was, but it wasn’t until I had been given a career research paper to be done in my English class that truly triggered my determined mechanism. I had [re]found the 1UP Network, but I was a little turned off by rejoining. See, I had joined before when I was a younger Sean Baby enthusiast (haha, sure), and I really didn’t know what I could do with it. Even now I don’t know what much to do with it, but I do things with it anyway!

I’m still on 1UP, and now I’m on WordPress for one sole reason: some 1UPers have a WordPress and I want to be with the like the cool kids. Yeah, I’m not even kidding that much. I guessed if I would have any secondary / main blog, it would be here and 1UP.

As of now, I’m unsure of what I’m going to do. I may just write commentary and reviews here and broadcast them on 1UP, or repost them on 1UP, I honestly haven’t a clue. I’ll think of something, but thank you for reading if you did read.

ps. Look out for a Super Smash Bros. Brawl review that I’m thinking of writing as soon as I get all my emotions on it organized. Until next time…
